I’m super excited to announce the launch of a project I’ve been working on for the past six months. It’s an interactive visualization of the US Budget.

The US Budget is arguably the most important document for understanding what our government actually does. However, I have never met anyone who has actually seen it.

The purpose of this project is to make the US Budget accessible and understandable for everyone. You can see three levels deep into the budget, and learn about all the various departments, agencies, and line items that make up the federal budget.

You can see the budget on a normal or inflation adjusted basis. You can see total amounts or per capita numbers. You can also see income or expenses.

Thanks to all my family, friends, and colleagues who helped support me as this vague idea became a reality. Thanks to Ritesh Bansal, Mike Dewer, and the people at DataKind for their input and suggestions. Special thanks to my wife Kelly, without whom this project would never have happened.

No more lollygagging. Go check out the project, and share it with everyone you know!
